Clothing was once valued for quality and longevity. People owned fewer clothes and reused them repeatedly. Fashion cycles follow seasons, not weekly trend drops

Consumers bought 40% fewer clothes than today. Most garments were mended, handed down, or repurposed. Tailoring and hand-me-downs were common sustainable practices. Textile waste existed, but at a far smaller scale. The culture encouraged care, not overconsumption of fashion.
